The 2014 NAB show (Twitter & Engadget) has lots of new gear on display, including Cameras, Satellite and Remote and Signal Processing.
Some of the more interesting announcements include:
- Livestream, one of the internet’s most popular broadcasting services, announced an application for Google Glass, although you can already use the search giant’s own Hangouts app to broadcast what you’re seeing. Livestream intends to integrate their Glass app with the rest of the company’s ecosystem, like its Broadcaster and all-in-one Studio video switchers. The “Livestream” voice command launches the app and one simple tap on the side of your Glass headset starts the broadcast.
- Phantom 2 Vision+ drone, a $1,299 quadcopter, includes DJI’s a new three-axis gimbal (compared to single-axis stabilization) and more than double the WiFi range (700 meters, or about 2,300 feet), along with a 50-percent boost in maximum flight speed (to 15 meters or 50 feet per second) and a 90-degree tilt that lets you shoot subjects directly below.
- Microsoft announced Skype TX with studio-grade audio and video for broadcasters. It offers higher-quality audio and video output and supports the broadcast-standard HD-SDI interface. It can handle multiple calls at once and eliminate distractions such as call notifications and ads.
- Sony’s new A7s is a 12MP version of the Alpha 7 line designed for 4K video, although it doesn’t record 4K on SD card. You will have to use an external recorder. It has ISO up to 409600. Price will be announced later and release in “Summer”.
